Ok, was going to leave this in testing for a bit, but it seems to work better than expected...

First go to http://www.ventrilo.com and download the newest client. You'll want a headset mic, but any will do in a pinch.

Then install it.

Then hit the -> next to username and make a new one for you. (Like an IRC nick, really.)

Then click this link:

Ok, I just dl'ed Ventrilo, only a few minutes on dialup. Found the CoA channel. Used Wakhan as my user name. A little difficulty getting used to a headset - trying to figure out how to eat salad and leave the mike out of it. Looks like it could be fun. I skimped on a soundcard on my system, using an old SB PCI card, but it seems ok so far.

Charin, what are the costs. I think if we are going to use this awesome service, we should be willing to chip in, all of us.

The costs for all of the site end up running around $45 per month, though I'm going to reduce the bandwidth allocation for the site to reduce those costs a bit. (Now that my tailoring catalog isn't generating a gig a day of traffic...) Anyways, the cost for Ventrilo is around $12-15 per month for the first 25 users. If we need to go to 50 (which is a great problem to have...) I'd have to go to $20, I think. None of it is overwhelming, but the donations do help.

what donations have you recieved lately? any? I know its been along time. Jeez, I dont even know if I remember how do do paypal :)

Well....like I said, it's no hardship, but the last donation was several (6?) months ago for $20. (Not sure if the person wants to be identified, and my assess person isn't very high anyways. ) So it's been a bit. If someone doesn't want to use Paypal, then just let me know via PM and we'll work out alternate arrangements.

It woiks good, talked with Uller today, conversation latency was a minor issue, but didn't notice any appreciable lag, tho I did turn it off to help with recovery in Caul dungeon.

Whats weird is that I hate the sound of my own voice :( I hear my voice feeback sometimes, and it makes me cringe

I think everyone's that way, DS. Ask the people online with you chatting to turn down their speakers, or if they have a creative labs (soundblaster) card to be sure that the record setting is set to microphone, not to the grammatically annoying "What u hear" setting. :-P
